BIOGRAPHY

I am Los Angeles-based queer, Latino filmmaker who primarily focuses on writing and directing narrative films which highlight the under-represented voices of my respective communities. I personally prefer not to think of my work fitting within certain genres but rather using the intersection of these styles in order to propel my message further. The stories I tell tap into the life struggles of those who have been forgotten in society by elaborating on socio-political and economic phenomena such as immigration, gentrification, queer-friendly healthcare and access to an American education.

My strengths as a creator lie in directing, writing and cinematography. I began my career as a filmmaker when I was only a freshman in high school through my campus' conservatory of the arts program and decided to take this path even more seriously as a film student in college. I believe that my strong directing style stems from my ability to both craft an engaging storyline as well as visualize such a plot line in an aesthetically compelling manner. My pursuit of social justice in everything I write and has led me to connect with my actors and/or interview subjects in ways that I am convinced very few can. I possess certain sensibilities which have informed my interactions with people who find themselves on the margins of social movements and stuck between the constraints of rejection and conditional acceptance.

The piece that I would say I am the most proud of is my narrative film "Leo y Fernando." This production was an absolute labor of love to finally display on screen considering that it was a story that had been living in my head since I started my college career. This films explores the tensions between American-born Latinos and those who are recently arriving from various Latin American countries and fight in order to find a way to get by in this new country. This piece specifically addresses issues of immigration, access to an American education and the stigma surrounding being a dreamer in the DACA program.
